Rome-based painter Flaminia Bonciani bridges critical theory, historic materiality, and visionary shamanic states. 

Informed by an acting background, she holds an MFA from the City & Guilds of London Art School and dual BAs from RUFA and in Business. 

 

Creator of the first oil-based spray paint in the world, Flaminia has exhibited her work throughout Italy, Switzerland and England and has been featured on many magazines, including a ten pages spread on “New Art Project”.

Bonciani works on large-scale stretched silk—invoking the silk robes of 16th-century Benandanti shamans—using Chinese calligraphy brushes and raw earth pigments. 

 

Driven by research into the ergot-contaminated kykeon of the Eleusinian Mysteries, her mineral surfaces bridge entheogenic states with a deconstruction of the Lacanian Big Other, positioning the canvas as a physical site of psychological repair and spiritual sovereignty. 

 

Flaminia is currently working on a series made of ten works on silk and called “Transcendent Waters”, which she started during a residency in China, on the Daliang mountains. 

 

She has been recently shortlisted for ArtEvol 2026: A view from Everywhere,a contest by London Art Collective x Saatchi.
